Dana Day

Dreams of ghosts, fairies, and ages past; the inspiration behind my photographs. A Hershey Cocoa box is my tool. A pinprick of light is all that is required to burn my fantasies onto a sheet of film.

Pinhole Photography is the medium with which I create my art. I prefer this primitive method to the high tech automatic gadgets of modern photography. The antique aspects of the pinhole camera enable me to distort time and reality. The viewer is drawn into a world outside of our everyday existence. Is it the year 2004 or 1934? The figures in my images have the freedom to dance throughout the frame, without the shackles of a rigidly composed scene. It is this dream world that pushes me onward to create new art.

My subject is mostly my own image. The setting is ideally any place old and forgotten, left behind to decay in a quickly changing world. There are many beautiful ways in which to produce a photograph that do not involve a computer or expensive equipment. It is my passion to keep these techniques alive.
